One case of cloacal exstrophy was diagnosed prenatally by ultrasound and confirmed at birth. We thoroughly reviewed the literatüre on 15 previous prenatally diagnosed cloacal extrophy cases. The ultrasound findings were a large cystic mass protruding from the infraumbilical anterior abdominal wall, a lower anterior abdominal wall defect, right-sided hydronephrosis and hydroureter, severe oligohydramnion, omphalocele, a distorted spine, left-sided renal agenesis and splaying of the pubic rami. After delivery at 34 weeks, the abnormal fetus was found to have the typical findings of cloacal exstrophy, myelomeningocele, bilateral lower limb anomalies, absence of external genitalia and bilateral gonadal agenesis.Cloacal exstrophy can be diagnoses by prenatal ultrasound, permitting prenatal counseling and appropriate perinatal management.
