Five percent of maternal mortality in Şrst trimester of pregnancy is due to ectopic pregnancy (EP). The objective of this study was determined trend of EP incidence between 1996 and 2001 in Motazedi hospital of Kermanshah.
This descriptive study was based on records of pregnant women in Motazedi hospital of Kermanshah. DeŞnite diagnosis of EP was down by laparatomy findings. The incidence rate calculated as number of EP per 1000 pregnancy. Risk factors, signs and symptoms were also determined.
The total incidence of EP was 2,45 per 1000 pregnancies between1374 to 1378. Annual incidence rates increased during this time. The most frequent signs were abdominal pain (%99,2), abnormal uterine bleeding (%70,2) and gastroin-testinal problems (%38,3). The most frequent symptoms were abdominal tenderness (%92,2), painful cervix (%70,2) and painful adnex (%46,8). There was not any risk factor in %24 of patents but the %22,7 of patients had more than one risk factor. Infertility was the most frequent risk factor. The tube was most frequent place for EP.
The different distribution of sexual transmitted disease or lower used of assisted reproductive technology may be the cause of low incidence rate of EP in patients of Motazedi hospital of Kermanshah. Our results showed the raised incidence rates of EP during period of study need to be evaluated in future studies.
